Gene Eicher
Eugene Eicher began the study of the viola/cello at the age of 8. At age 13, he went to the Curtis Institue of Music in Philadelpia, PA to study with the famous Russian cellist, Gregor Piatigorksy. After graduation, Eugene played in the Pittsburg Symphony for 3 years under the baton of William Steinberg. He served as Professor of Cello at Carnegie Institue of Technology for 11 years, the University of Texas, El Paso for 8 years, University of Georgia for 13 years, and the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL for 12 years. While in Miami, Mr. Eicher was Principal Cellist of several orchestras including the Naples Philharmonic for 11 years. His career included teaching, chamber music and several European tours. Having recently retired from the Southwest Florida Symphony, Eugene Eicher is happy to continue performing his beautiful music for weddings and other special events.
